PREPARING FOR YOUR PUPPY
What do I need for my puppy?
Preparing for your new puppy is an exciting time! It's a great to gather all the essentials before your furry friend arrives. Make sure you have a leash, collar, harness, name tag, kennel, puppy pads, a bag of Purina Puppy, a cozy pet bed, and plenty of chew toys to keep them entertained. This way, you'll be ready to welcome your pup into their new home with everything they need!
What shipping options do you offer?
Looking for a safe and reliable way to have your puppy delivered? Many people opt for our flight nanny service, which ensures your furry friend arrives in comfort and style. While ground shipping is also an option, we currently do not have a designated ground shipper. Our nanny service fees include a round trip airline ticket, a $250 nanny fee, and a $150 puppy ticket. We'll be thrilled to meet you at your nearest airport with your adorable puppy!
Will my puppy shed?
It’s important to note that while your puppy will shed, it shouldn't be as much as a typical Golden Retriever. The small percentage of Poodle in their lineage should help reduce shedding, making them a great choice for those who prefer less fur around the home. Regular grooming can also assist in managing any loose hair.
What is the bell method?
Bell training your puppy is an effective method for housetraining. While I haven't tried this approach myself, I have heard numerous success stories from our pet parents. By placing a bell at the door designated for potty breaks and encouraging your puppy to ring it with their paw each time you go out, you can reinforce the behavior. After consistent practice your puppy will learn to ring the bell whenever they need to go outside!
What training has my puppy had?
Welcome to our kennels! We take pride in our setup, which helps puppies adjust quickly to housetraining. Most of our pups go home almost trained, and with a little effort on your part, they become fully trained in no time.
What does my puppy eat?
We suggest maintaining your new pup on Purina Puppy, as that’s the diet all our puppies are accustomed to, which helps avoid any tummy troubles. If you decide to change your puppy's food, it’s advisable to blend the new food with Purina in equal portions for a week. This approach will help your puppy adapt smoothly their new diet!
Will my puppy bite and chew?
Puppies are naturally curious and, similar to babies, are constantly learning about their surroundings. While teething and discovering, they often chew on whatever they can get their paws on. If your puppy bites, respond with 'Ow!' to discourage the behavior and offer a toy as a distraction. Be sure to puppy-proof your home by clearing away potential dangers like shoes and stuffed animals to create a safe space for your new companion!
Should I crate train my puppy?
There are many mixed reviews on crate training a puppy. Many people feel its cruel to use kennels, however many vets recommend it. If done properly, most dogs find their crate comforting. They will even go in it on their own when they feel scared or nervous. It is also very beneficial during the puppy stage when you working to house train your puppy, for travel, having guests over, and vet trips.
Do I need a harness and if so, what size?
Looking for a way to prevent damaging pulling on your puppy's neck? Harnesses are an excellent solution! A small size adjustable harness is perfect for your little one, and after their first growth spurt, you can easily upgrade to a size. Check out the fantastic options available on Amazon, many of which come with a leash included!
Does my puppy need any additional vaccines?
All of our puppies come fully vet checked and receive their first vaccine. To ensure their health, they will need an additional 2-3 vaccines along with a rabies shot before they are considered fully vaccinated. We prioritize the well-being of our pups and want to make sure they start their new lives healthy protected.
Can I take my puppy to the dog park or Petsmart?
Puppies are particularly vulnerable to illnesses and diseases until they have completed their vaccinations. Many of these diseases can spread and have severe effects. For the health and safety of your puppy, it's best to keep them at home and away from other unvaccinated dogs until they are fully vaccinated. This precaution helps ensure a healthier start to their life. Vaccinated pets of friends and family members are fine.
